Lakeside Nature Reserve
For those eager to get close to nature
The Lower Mill Estate, located in the Cotswolds, is a true jewel in the patchwork quilt landscape of England. The lakeside nature reserve is comprised of eight lakes, two rivers and miles of walking trails. Formerly the site of a derelict quarry, Lower Mill Estate is now a stunning space that celebrates unspoiled nature, beautiful wildlife and everything the great outdoors has to offer. Its woodlands and hedgerows are home to a diverse range of native wildlife.
Lower Mill Estate is built around a large and diverse nature reserve supporting a range of wonderful habitats and wildlife. Over 25 species of waterbirds can be seen on the lakes over Winter. Spring brings a huge range of breeding birds including Nightingale, Cuckoo and Cetti’s Warbler. House Martins arrive in April after an incredible journey from Africa and can be seen nesting on the houses. Walk through wildflower meadows in Summer and marvel at the diversity of brightly coloured damselflies and dragonflies around the lakes. Water voles can be seen on the rivers and otters use the lakes and rivers as well as regularly moving through the villages. Beavers can be seen at dusk on Flagham Fen.
Rare and memorable holidays in natural surroundings, in superbly appointed self-catering accommodation, with an exclusive award-winning on-site spa and ample opportunities for outdoor activities in hundreds of acres of unspoiled nature reserve.

MISS MOUSE TRAIL
Inspired by Lower Mill Estate’s founder, Jeremy Paxton, and brought to life in his memory, the Miss Mouse Adventure Trail encourages children to get to know as many species as possible around the estate. We have developed a cast of characters from his imagined children’s book, “Miss Mouse Builds a House” and incorporated them into the quest. Collect a map from the Miss Mouse meeting hut and head out into the wild to find the hidden treasure. Open April to October.
Set alongside the spa and Ballihoo Restaurant, Millstone Park completes the central hub of the estate. Created with the whole family in mind, there’s something for everyone to enjoy – an action-packed children’s play area, a volleyball court, two tennis courts, a soft play area and a 3G artificial turf multi-use games area (MUGA) that beckons you to call a game of five-a-side football with friends and family. Soft Play is also located here for children up to the ages of 8. If you wish to use the soft play please enquire at Ballihoo.
Adjacent to the Ballihoo Restaurant, the Market stocks all manner of local provisions as well as those basic necessities you just can’t do without. You’ll find logs for the fire and local meats for the BBQ but no single-use plastic here, part of our efforts to make the estate environmentally responsible. If you just fancy an afternoon in the sun with a paper and fresh coffee, you’ll find that here too, although we can’t promise the sun part.
