Poole

Just 30 minutes east of Silverlake lies one of Dorset’s best-loved towns. Famously picturesque, the breezy coastal town of Poole is the epitome of harbourside chic. There’s plenty for families to enjoy from fish and chips on the beach to exploring the colourful Lighthouse art centre or hopping on a ferry to hunt for treasure on neighbouring islands. Once a busy centre for maritime trade, visitors now flock to Poole Quay for its lively bars, pubs and restaurants.

Dorchester

Dorset’s picturesque county town of Dorchester is steeped in rich history but has recently found itself thrust into the 21st Century. The thriving town centre has been rejuvenated with the opening of the Brewery Square, brimming over with trendy new shops, eateries and watering holes. From the historic haunts of famous poet Thomas Hardy and the Tutankhamun museum to Wagamama's and the new Odeon cinema, there is something for everyone in this beautiful town.

This classic seaside town offers plenty of fun for all the family, along with a beautiful old harbour and classic views above the town from Nothe Fort.

Bridport

To the west of Silverlake lies Bridport, a lively market town that was once a hub for the rope making industry. Today, this is still in evidence with specialist rope and fishing shops lining the streets, as well as a number of historical buildings dating back to the 18th century. Serving as an ideal gateway for exploring the fossil-laden Jurassic Coast (a World Heritage Site), Bridport is also home to West Bay (where Broadchurch was filmed) and a number of arts and crafts shops.

Lyme Regis

Slightly further west of Bridport (one hour by car from Silverlake), you’ll find another, smaller coastal town. Nicknamed the ‘pearl of Dorset’, Lyme Regis has long been a popular holiday destination in itself. Postcard pretty, it boasts breath-taking scenery including an historic Cobb and quaint harbour – both iconic features set against a backdrop of cliffs – and plenty of top-notch restaurants and cafés. Chosen for the location of a number of films including Jane Austen’s Persuasion and The French Lieutenant’s Woman, the town has an undeniably special feel to it.
