At Habitat Escapes, we take great pride in our environmental surroundings. As part of Habitat First Group, we endeavour to have a positive impact by respecting nature and the wider community, whilst enhancing the health and well-being of families who choose a green holiday with us at our unique and eco-friendly estates.
Sustainability has been at the heart of everything we do from the beginning. Both Lower Mill Estate and Silverlake have injected new life into unused land and derelict quarries, to create environments which encourage local wildlife and communities to live in harmony and embrace their shared love for mother nature.
A belief in ethical integrity supports all our operations. By their very nature, our modern, eco-friendly developments avoid the issue of turning rural villages into ghost towns mid-week, whilst still generating local income and jobs.

A belief in ethical integrity supports all our operations. By their very nature, our modern, eco-friendly developments avoid the issue of turning rural villages into ghost towns mid-week, whilst still generating local income and jobs. We regenerate our development sites, creating habitats for wildlife as much as for people, with recognition for excellence with a prestigious Building with Nature accreditation.
Many houses on the estate are sustainably minded and architecturally adventurous, with measures to reduce energy and heat loss. They stand the test of time and provide an environment for families to holiday responsibly, safely and enjoyably, while instilling a love of nature in future generations.
Wherever possible, we encourage our guests to travel sustainably to Lower Mill Estate and Silverlake offering electric car charging points throughout the estates for guests to use. In fact, many of our eco-friendly holiday homes come with their own EV charging points and we are delighted to see more of our homeowners choosing this option.
Lower Mill Estate is 10 minutes from Kemble railway station and Silverlake is based a mile away from Moreton railway station, making both estates ideally situated for a visit by train.
Lower Mill Estate, The Cotswolds and Silverlake, Dorset are two of the only estates in the UK to be accredited with Building with Nature status, thanks to our sustainable approach meeting exacting standards associated with water, wildlife and wellbeing. Silverlake has also been cited as an example of best practice by Natural England for its approach to brownfield restoration and ecological regeneration.
We encourage our homeowners to make their holiday cottages as sustainable as possible with a range of enhanced features with more of our properties benefitting from a private electric car charging point. Many of our homes have living roofs, bee bricks, birdhouses or bat houses to help us to sustain the incredible array of wildlife on site.
We are delighted to be able to fund local projects that benefit the environment locally to both our estates.

Many of the specials at Ballihoo restaurant contain fresh, seasonal produce, grown at the onsite allotment in a no-dig, chemical-free environment that supports our work on biodiversity.
Our hard-working grounds team use the allotment to recycle as many of our natural materials as possible, which in turn helps our food to flourish. Fallen leaves and manure from our grazing goats is used to fertilise the soil and veg peelings from Ballihoo are brought back down to the allotment’s compost heap, to create a closed nutrient loop.
Keep an eye on the menu for globe artichokes, borlotti beans, squash, pumpkins, tromboncino courgettes and lots more throughout the year.
