You will be hard-pressed to find an area with as many quintessentially English walks as the Cotswolds.
Rolling hills flanked by lush green countryside, sit in harmony with hundreds of lakes and the River Thames.
Here are a few of our favourite walks that can be easily reached during your stay with us at Lower Mill Estate.
The Cotswold Water Park is one of the most unique places in the Cotswolds. Set across 26,880 acres of countryside with over 150 lakes, the Water Park is a haven for wildlife and is the perfect place for a spot of quiet reflection. There are six excellent walking routes in the Water Park, but we recommend route four which takes in the outskirts of the beautiful Lower Mill Estate along with an incredible array of water birds.
Not for the faint-hearted, this trail takes you along a field to a prehistoric stone circle; The King’s Men. According to local legend, the stones are a king and his knights, turned to stone by a wicked witch. This mysterious walk includes a short steep climb, so get your boots at the ready.
Climb Cleeve Hill for one of the best views in the Cotswolds. Overlooking grasslands, wildflower meadows, streams and woodlands, this walk provides the full Cotswold experience. Look out for local wildlife along the way. This walk is best recommended for good weather as it’s known for gathering mist very quickly.
If you’d like to go out walking for the whole day, try The Windrush Way. Starting in Winchcombe, this lovely route meanders past Sudeley Castle through undulating hills and along the river. This route connects The Cotswold Way with The Oxfordshire Way and is perfect for a relaxing picnic.
Get yourself well lubricated for this pretty four-mile walk with a refreshing drink at the Bathurst Arms at the start of the route. As it’s a linear route, it is an easy one to follow and you will see water meadows, a Saxon mill and a 14thCentury church along the way.
