Inspiring days out near Silverlake
At Silverlake there are a great range of activities on-site to keep you busy, but if you fancy heading further afield, you will find plenty to do in Dorset. From coastal towns that are full of history, to cliff top walks and family fun, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Here are just a few ideas to inspire your days out while you are staying with us.
Have a family day out at the famously picturesque, coastal town of Poole. Only 30 minutes away, Poole is the epitome of harbourside chic. Explore the colourful Lighthouse Arts Centre, hop on a ferry to hunt for treasure on neighbouring islands or tuck into fish and chips on the beach.
Take in some culture or a spot of shopping in the county town of Dorchester. Steeped in rich history, the thriving town centre has been rejuvenated with the opening of the Brewery Square, brimming with trendy new shops, eateries, and watering holes. Enjoy some culture, visiting the haunts of famous poet Thomas Hardy or try the Tutankhamun Museum.
Slightly further away (one hour by car from Silverlake), you’ll find Lyme Regis. A small, coastal town nicknamed the ‘pearl of Dorset’, Lyme Regis has always been a popular holiday destination. Postcard pretty, it boasts breath-taking scenery, including a historic Cobb and quaint harbour – set against a backdrop of cliffs – and plenty of top-notch restaurants and cafés. Chosen for the location of several films, the town has an undeniably special feel to it.
If you fancy exploring the coastline by foot, beautiful walks are in abundance. From cliff top hikes along the panoramic coastline, to shorefront strolls looking for fossils, the Jurassic coastline is the perfect backdrop to the South West coast path. Try Golden Cap, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door or enjoy a circular route, taking in West Bay to Burton Bradstock.
