Set within the peaceful surroundings of Lower Mil Estate, the cabin offers easy access to scenic walking trails, wildlife, and fresh country air. Whether you're planning a romantic break, a family holiday, or a weekend escape with your dog, this fully equipped cabin provides everything you need for a memorable stay.

 

Lakeshore Reserve is a brand new addition to Lower Mill and Habitat Escapes! As such, there are still properties and areas of the estate that are undergoing final elements of construction, so whilst this property is fully completed, you will see construction, machinery, and workers on or around the island between 0730 and 1800, Monday to Friday and 0800 to 1300, Saturday. Please abide by any signage relating to construction areas.

The Retreat at Lower Mill Estate is set entirely on the ground floor, offering easy access throughout and a seamless connection to the surrounding outdoor space.

Inside, the cabin features a cosy open-plan living area with large glass doors that are intentionally left without curtains or blinds to let in uninterrupted natural light and make the most of the stunning views. A fully equipped kitchen, comfortable lounge, and dining area create an inviting space to unwind after a day of outdoor Cotswold adventures.

Bedrooms & Bathrooms:

The two bedrooms, one king and one twin offer restful nights.

The double bedroom comes complete with an en-suite shower room.

There is also a family bathroom.

Outside:

Step outside onto the back deck to enjoy morning coffee or sunset drinks while wildlife passes by, or unwind in your private hot tub overlooking the peaceful surroundings.

Swillbrook lake to the back of the cabin is a site of scientific impact and a protected area for the wildlife that calls it home. No access is available to this lake but access can be gained to Minety Lake, a short walk away from the cabin. 

A wood-fired pizza oven can be found to the back decking, perfect for alfresco dining. Logs can be purchased prior to arrival with our team or at Ballihoo restaurant after you arrive. 

Please note that the kayaks in the photos are not for guest use, activity equipment can be hired by the Lower Mill Estate Activity Hub.

Estate Rules   

  • Quiet hours are observed after 11pm, we aim to maintain a peaceful and respectful environment for all residents and guests. 
  • Hen and stag parties, including any related activities, are not allowed on the estate premises.
  • Work related stays for any purpose are not permitted on the estate.

House Rules

  • All our properties are non-smoking.
  • Upon departure, kindly ensure that the premises are left in a clean and orderly manner, with all furniture returned to its original position and rubbish removed. There are bin stores located around the estate.
  • A £500 refundable damage deposit is due the week before your arrival. You will be contacted regarding this.
  • This property accepts up to 2 dogs.
  • This cabin has a pizza oven instead of a BBQ, please do not bring disposable BBQ's to the property as these can cause damage to the decking.

Property is self-catered. The house is fully equipped with cutlery and crockery.

On-site restaurant and small market shop with seasonal opening hours. Availability can book up in peak weeks so contact Ballihoo prior to arrival to not miss out. (01285 840181)

Not all properties have direct lake access even though they are listed as lakeside. This property does not have direct lake access.

Please be aware that the vegetation surrounding the property is subject to change according to the time of year. This may mean that the views represented in the photos above may vary depending on the season in which you stay with us.

Normal check-in is from 4 pm. Out of peak season, early check-in of 2 pm may be available (at an additional fee). Please contact our office team to enquire.

Check out during off-peak dates is by 10 am on the day of departure. During peak dates (school holidays) check out is at 9 am.

Travel cot and highchair are available for £10, subject to availability. Please advise at the time of booking. Guests to provide their own linen and mattress for the travel cot.

There are 2 electric vehicle charging points on the estate that operate on a first come first use basis.

Seasonal Closures

Somerford Lagoon Lake is closed from October – March due to nesting birds. The nearest canoe launch point is located near Mill Village as marked on the Estate Map.

The Miss Mouse Trail, run by the activity hub closes for the winter months. This is from 1st November to the Easter holidays.

Finding your Property
From the main entrance where the security hut is positioned, drive through the gates and cross the first bridge. Take the first right turn you reach and go over the next two bridges in front of you. Just after the second bridge, the road will split off left and right. Please take the road on the left through the car park area and continue straight, ignoring the next left-hand turn. Just past this turn, you will see the back of the Spa also on your left-hand side. Continue on, keeping the spa on your left-hand side and then the Ballihoo restaurant also on your left. On your right-hand side, you will see properties, follow these along with the numbers on the properties until you get to Minety Lake 5 on your right-hand side on the corner. Just past Minety Lake 5 is a right turn that you need to take. Follow this road and the Lakeshore Reserve properties will be on the left side of this road. Please follow the numbers until you get to 16 Lakeshore Reserve.

To assist you during darker evenings, you would be advised to bring a torch with you as there is no street lighting permitted on the Estate other than low-level lighting.
